This fun filled one day tour visits Nami Island, renowned as the romantic backdrop of the ever popular KBS drama Winter Sonata, with additional stops to experience the culture and famed cuisine of Chuncheon city.
The tour train departs Seoul Station at 8:20 am heading 63km north east to the first stop of Gapyeong Station, gateway to the North Han River¡¯s famed resort of Nami Island. After a quick ferry crossing to reach the tranquil islet named after the Joseon Dynasty¡¯s General Nami, you are free to explore its natural beauty, walking along the shore or through the tree lined pathways of ginkgos and pines to soak up the scenery. Or one can delve into a bit of Korean TV nostalgia and search the half moon shaped island for the filming sights immortalized by actor Bae Yong Joon and actress Choi Ji Woo who portrayed star crossed lovers in the romantic drama that aired in 2002 and was influential in the widespread swell of popularity of Korean culture now known as ¡°Hallyu¡± (the ¡°Korean Wave¡±).
Next it¡¯s on to Chuncheon, for a delicious lunch along Myeong-dong Street, a row of restaurants serving up the city¡¯s signature dish of Dakgalbi, a spicy chicken stir fry. From here you will head to the Makguksu Museum focusing on another local specialty, Buckwheat noodles. Enjoy a firsthand culinary experience from kneading the dough, pressing it through the hand cranked noodle making machine to the finale of sampling the famous seasoned cold noodle dish. Then it¡¯s back to nature with a brief stop to the observatory atop Mount Gubong to take in a panoramic view of Chuncheon City. The tour wraps up with a visit to the Kim Yu JeongHouse of Literature commemorating the life and works of Chuncheon¡¯s native son and one of Korea¡¯s leading novelists, Kim Yu Jeong (1908-1938). Kim penned many of his famed descriptive short stories based on life and surroundings of his rural home province of Kangwon Do. Board the tour train at the Kim Yu Jeong Station for the return ride arriving back at Seoul Station at 7:20 pm. (Reservation and Availability check are mandatory)
